Dutch barge out of the water
Dutch barge out of the water. There she was. Barge Vitesse all cleaned up and ready to move on out. Unfortunately that was not the case. Even though she was back in the water, we'd run into a problem. One of the surveyors findings had been that Vitesse needed to have a brand new propeller shaft. This is quite a huge piece of metal connecting the engine and gearbox under the wheelhouse with the propeller under the counter stern. This is in fact about three metres in distance. Rather than just fit it and be done with me, the shipyard pointed out that to do the job properly, (at extra cost) they should fit a support bearing in the middle which the previous one had not and to get perfect alignment (at extra cost), my 3/4 tonne engine would need new engine mountings and to be raised up by a couple of inches. I agreed.
Ready for the off... Not quite...
